Web Site SuggestionsIn September 2003 there was discussion on the Public Software Mailing List (PubSoft) on free and open source software for the management of large web sites such as ISOC's. The following were suggestions made by PubSoft members:Drupal"Drupal is an open-source platform and content management system for building dynamic web sites offering a broad range of features and services including user administration, publishing workflow, discussion capabilities, news aggregation, metadata functionalities using controlled vocabularies and XML publishing for content sharing purposes." Drupal is PHP and database based.Apache / mod-perl / Mason"Mason is a powerful Perl-based web site development and delivery engine. With Mason you can embed Perl code in your HTML and construct pages from shared, reusable components." Also check out the user list. OpenACS was developed from the ArsDigita system which has now been taken over by RedHat, more info on the Red Hat Enterprise Applications page. Not clear how the two projects will develop.OpenCMS"OpenCMS is a professional level Open Source Website Content Management System". The feature-list includes: Java/XML based, integrated user management and permission system, workflow and Task Management, module mechanism for extensions, application server integration / EJB support. Zope is written in Python. Zope.org is the project while zope.com is the company that provides support services. Also check out the user and client list.
