The project has its roots on the internet ("Goanet"), when in 1995, Goans in N.America took the initiative to raise money for a number of schools in Goa. Since then, several thousands of dollars have been raised in various parts of the world (primarily the US, Canada, UAE and the UK) to serve this purpose. GSCP is the first educational project in India to use the Linux operating system which substantially reduces costs, and has a collaboration with RedHat India for this purpose. ... Till date the Goa Government has provided about 750 PC's to to Goa's 350 secondary schools, thus enabling every school in Goa to have at least 1 PC - the first state in India to achieve this Goal.
