I think the first reaction to everyone when they hear about how wiki works is that really bad things will happen if you let everyone post without any access control. It's an instinctive reaction that seems to be curiously wrong. One of things that really turned me onto to wiki was how well WikiPedia works.

It reminds me of the Community Chalkboard concept at the Thomas Jefferson Center.
