shasta-anth-1 - Physical Anthropology - H. Pilakowski sending and receiving emails (including attachments), downloading and installing browser plug-ins and other programs, searching the internet, and word processing using Microsoft Word. Although all exams and quizzes will be online, students may be required to submit hard copies of their final research papers to the instructor via the U.S. Postal Service, at student expense. Additionally, students will be required to engage in several real-time online chat sessions during the course of the semester. Other Requirements: This will be a reading-intensive course requiring the successful student to spend up to 3 hours of time per unit of credit per week (i.e. 9 hours per week for a 3 unit class), much of which will be online reading and responding to discussion questions. Required Hardware/software/ISP (Internet Service Provider) requirements for home access for this course include (these are minimum requirements): PC platform: Pentium (or equivalent) PC compatible computer MS Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000 operating system Internet access (28.8 Kbps minimum) - MS Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher, OR Netscape 3.01 or higher (browser must have Java enabled and QuickTime 3.0 or higher installed) SVGA color display, 640x480 pixel resolution or better (higher preferred) 16 MB free RAM+ Double-speed CD-ROM drive (quad speed or higher preferred) 8 bit or higher sound card required for sound access MS Word 97 or 2000 (or fully compatible Word Processing program) Other Requirements: The topical content of the class is the same as sections provided on campus, as are the expected performance standards. The course will utilize many different types of learning activities and will require continuous and active participation of all students. Types of activities will include: web-based content review; assigned visits to pre-selected websites; student projects and homework assignments; study of the excellent textbook; completion and submission of student studyguide exercises; CD-ROM mediated learning assignments; required chatroom, discussion group and/or workshop participation; optional on-campus workshops; and quizzes and exams.
